Tassie Spirit

We made it to Tasmania!

Driving onto the Spirit of Tasmania ferry was relatively easy (albeit a tight fit in my motorhome). We were told to expect a relatively good crossing, with the first swells not being felt until we reached open water. The swell was big enough that you felt you might roll in bed (but you didn't) and neither of us got seasick but that may be due to Travacalm.

We were very impressed with the genuinely friendly welcome we got from the crew.

Station Pier, Port Melbourne:

Into the ferry:

We were the first vehicle deck to depart and we were on the road to Port Sorell and the beautiful Rubicon Inlet by 7am:

We spent time with Maryann near Ulverstone - and many thanks for the delicious homemade fudge brownies:

The town of Penguin was next on our itinerary - how could you go past a name like that!

The volunteer at the Penguin Visitor Centre suggested we visit the Emu Valley Rhododendron Gardens near Burnie. There are 30 acres in the garden and many rhododendrons were still flowering (the first 2 weeks of October are the best time to go).

Pauline even spotted the resident platypus - to think I've previously hung around platypus pools at dusk trying to get a shot. This guy almost posed:

PD and I shared a Tassie cheese platter for lunch at the Makers Workshop in Burnie before driving to the simply stunning Table Cape:

In season you will see tulips growing on the cape, along with other blooms:

We are staying the night at Stanley and we can see the ocean from the motorhome windows. What an historical place this is with plenty of old buildings near the wharf area:

The 'Nut' towers over all:

We have enjoyed the milder day in Tassie, but we can certainly feel a chill now that the sun is going down.
