Cradle Mountain

There is a lookout over Cradle Mountain on the approach road. Naturally we stopped and climbed the hill. Most of Cradle Mountain was covered in cloud and we hoped the weather forecast of showers clearing was accurate.

Cradle Mountain - just to the right of the trees:

Wild flowers were plentiful:

By the time we checked into our caravan park and had some lunch, the cloud cover had broken up. It was fairly windy and cold. We couldn't drive past the visitors centre in the motorhome as the two way road is narrow. Luckily our national park pass entitles you to free use of the shuttle service to Dove Lake, with several stops along the way and we could walk to the shuttle from our caravan park.

When we arrived at Dove Lake, PD went exploring whilst I took about 40 pictures trying to capture the changing moods of the lake and mountain. We could even see a patchof snow still clinging to the mountain.

Before heading back to the motorhome, we stopped at the Interpretive Centre for a short 20 minute walk past Pencil Pine Falls:

We even spotted a wombat (to the left of the inverted V shaped dead branch):

Moss and lichen grows everywhere:
