Penultimate

Sadly we are nearing the end of our tour around Tasmania. We depart on the Spirit of Tasmania tomorrow night and this will be the last post. In reportedly the driest Spring on record, we have been blessed with wonderful weather. Yes it was cold at times, yes it was very windy for about 3 days but we never opened an umbrella as rain fell at night or when we were driving.

We only had one boat ride cancelled due to high wind and swell at Freycinet yet we still saw many beautiful sights through land based touring/walking.

We have bought the freshest of seafood, tender Spring lamb, delicious cheeses and preserves and the best strawberries we have eaten in years.

Tasmanians have been welcoming and helpful and always seem to have time for a chat.

We can honestly say we have loved it all. PD's top 2 were the Bay of Fires and Bruny Island. My top 2 were the Bay of Fires and the Rob Pennicott boat adventure to Tasman Island.

There is much we didn't have time to see or do - we would need another week or two.

Today we took the back roads from Low Head to Devonport with a coffee and fudge stop at Latrobe at Silk Fudge (lovely fudge).

Batman Bridge over the Tamar:

Latrobe:

PD to a T:

If you are interested in woodchop, the Axeman's Hall of Fame is in Latrobe.

Poppies growing in the countryside:

Pyrethrum - a pretty flowering crop which is one of the main ingredients in insecticides:

Just one of the many topiary in Railton:

The murals of Sheffield:

And old architecture and quirky shops:

There is a fantastic fruit shop down a side street in Sheffield which also sells coffee, ice cream and Tasmanian food products:

We will just wander around the town centre of Devonport tomorrow before we head back to Melbourne on:

Fingers crossed that the ride back is as good as the ride over.

Until the next trip ...
